The florrenci are an open species of doggo-kobolds. The species was designed to allow anyone who wishes to make a character to easily express their creativity and partake in the lore and world. Anyone who wants to make a florrenci character is able to and welcome to design a character. A character base is provided to help facilitate this process for those who need it. The Florrenci Team is happy to address any questions and help in the creation process of making a florrenci.

The florrenci were created by a pantheon of dragons to serve as both their servants and their pets. As the draconic pantheon grew, disputes broke out over which dragon, was the best, splitting the florrenci into different subspecies/types, each designed by one of the dragons. Eventually tensions grew high enough to cause the dragons to declare war upon each other. The florrenci would become tired of the war, having to serve as the soldiers, and banded together to enforce peace and break free from the pantheon.

What are the Florrenci

Kobolds meet Golems meet Dogs, and so much more.

Origins

Creation
The Florrenci were first created to be the servants and pets of the eldest dragon, Beildriras Kristensen. Each Florrenci was created from a primordial essence, determining their type, along with a small amount of draconic magic and dragon’s blood to give them life. Eventually, seeing as creating each and every Florrenci from scratch was inefficient, the Florrenci were given the ability to mate, mixing up to two essences and creating their own offspring.
Early History
The Florrenci were created with partial understandings of their creators, and a loyal duty to serve their dragon patron. Ultimately, Beildriras did not care too much about her Florrenci, unbothered by whether or not they could survive in the wild so long as they continued to serve her. As Beildriras and Azrinahd aged and had kids, their offspring would begin creating their own forms of the Florrenci utilizing the various elements around them as they saw fit. While Beildriras hoped the Florrenci could serve all the draconic offspring, each child sought a different relationship with their followers, offering their various blessings to those that pleased them most. The divide in draconic morals caused favoritism among the Florrenci, and tensions to rise among the dragons. As the tensions reached their peak, the draconic family split, staking claims over the land and sea, and bringing their followers with them, beginning the Draconic Wars.
Draconic Wars
During the Draconic Wars, the nightmares of the Dragon of Dreams, Conheidral, began causing a tear between the florrenci’s world and other parallel dimensions. Through these dimensional rifts, the florrenci were introduced to new threats, deities, monsters, blessings, curses, and all manner of whimsical intrigue. These rifts were thought to be caused by an evil cult of florrenci that had turned their backs on the Draconic Pantheon. The sudden appearance of the rifts greatly altered the war efforts, introducing a new unpredictable variable to the equation.
As the wars wagged on through generations, the Florrenci found themselves losing faith in the Draconic Pantheon. Over time, the Florrenci would come together to forge peace, removing the dragons from their positions as leaders. While most of the Florrenci types remain loyal to their draconic creator, the kobolds would return to their role as the dragons' servants, allowing the Florrenci to travel between the tribes and settle as they please, serving whichever dragon or deity they like the best. Still, the Florrenci maintain amicable relations with the dragons through offerings, out of respect for giving them life, desire for their blessings, and fear that they may anger.Where are the Florrenci Today
In the modern day, the Draconic Pantheon has turned its attention towards the rifts, trying to discover their origin and put and end to the threat they pose. The founding of the Florrenci Peace Council sees the florrenci, kobolds, and dragons working together to prevent the outbreak of a new war. Meanwhile, the Florrenci Adventurer's League was established to fight the new threats to the species. Many florrenci have taken advantage of the league's bounties, turning to lives as adventurers, with their own desires and motives.

Physical Attributes

Florrenci are facultative bipeds. They may choose between being quadrupedal or bipedal at will. While in a bipedal stance, the florrenci are able to use their forepaws as hands, but they lose balance if they move quickly. The quadrupedal stance allows the florrenci to move more freely, but sacrifices the ability to easily hold things.

Sizing

Florrenci are small canines, with a few common attributes among all types. All measurements are taken from head to start of tail, assuming a quadrupedal stance.

The average length for a Florrenci is 1’4” from head to tail.
o Normal range for length is 0’10” to 2’0”.
o Dwarfism is at any length at or below 1’1.5”.
o Gigantism is at any length at or above 1’7.5”.
Average height for a Florrenci is 0’7” from ground to underbelly.
o Normal range for height is 0’4” to 0’10”.

Typing

Florrenci may either be born from two Florrenci mating or created directly by a dragon. The Florrenci’s primordial essence, or their “type” is determined by how they were born:
o A Florrenci created directly by one of the dragons will only have the one essence, that being whatever they constituted of before being given life, dependent on the dragon.
o Florrenci born from two Florrenci parents may have one or two essences, inheriting either their mother’s, their father’s or both. If either parent already has two essences, the child may inherit one or both essences from a single parent.
o A Florrenci may only have one or two essences. It is impossible for a Florrenci not to have an essence.
Further information on the Florrenci types may be found in the Types of Florrenci document, located in the lore section.

Appearance

A Florrenci’s sex can be determined from appearance:
o Female Florrenci have longer tails in order to cover and protect their young, with their ears shorter than their tails.
o Male Florrenci have longer ears in order to listen for any dangers that may harm their family, with their tails shorter than their ears.
NOTE: While the ear and tail lengths are dependent on a Florrenci’s sex, they do not determine the Florrenci’s gender.
Fur patterns and other physical attributes of the Florrenci are influenced by their type(s).
Some examples of such are listed below, as well as in the Types of Florrenci document
o Ancestrals have random ear and tail lengths, independent of their sex.
o Bug Florrenci may have compound eyes, pincers, stingers, or any other insectoid parts of their body.
o Ashen and Molten Florrenci tend to smolder and are impervious to fire.
o Mountain Florrenci may have rocks or gems as a part of their body.
o Aquatic, Draconic, and Oceanic Florrenci may have scales instead of fur.
o Aquatic and Oceanic Florrenci have gills.
o Crustacean Florrenci may have a hard carapace instead of fur, and pincers.
o Celestial, Draconic, and Bug Florrenci may have wings. However, all Florrenci are flightless.

Other

o Florrenci are capable of obtaining the blessing of any of the dragons. Overreliance on the dragon’s blessing may cause scaring to the Florrenci, allowing their essence to manifest on their body.
Further information on the draconic blessings may be found in the Draconic Pantheon document
o To remind the Florrenci that they were the dragons’ playthings, they squeak like a dog toy when squished.

Aging

Lifecycle

Baby (0-2 years of age)
Florrenci are born as small balls of white fluff, only a few inches in size (approximately 0’4”), and both blind and deaf. It is uncommon for a female Florrenci to birth more than one child at a time. Florrenci infants lack the ability to regulate their own body temperatures, requiring their mother blanket them under her tail during periods of cold weather. The infants gain the ability to self-regulate their temperature after a few months, and gain eyesight and hearing within the first year. In the following year, the Florrenci pup will take its first steps, and its fur pattern will start to develop, muted and mixed in with the baby fur. It is not until the second year of life that the Florrenci develops memories and goes through the sensorimotor stage of life. At the end of this stage, the Florrenci has developed a sense of self, and is able to survive independent of its parent(s), beginning the childhood stage of the Florrenci lifecycle.
Childhood (3 to 9 years of age)
The average Florrenci starts childhood at the age of three. During the childhood years, a Florrenci slowly develops its fur patterns, overtaking the original coat of white fur the Florrenci is born with. Additionally, the Florrenci will grow in size throughout childhood, usually tripling or quadrupling size by the time they reach adulthood. Florrenci develop their personalities in childhood. Their nature, combined with any training, schooling, or other formative memories, may help the child determine what they will do with their lives in adulthood. While independent, a child Florrenci remains with their parents until early adulthood.

Adulthood (10 to 35 years of age)
Adulthood for a Florrenci begins at the age of 10 and is the longest period of the Florrenci lifecycle. During adulthood, a Florrenci starts working to earn their keep, starting a career and seek their own dwelling. Additionally, the adult Florrenci may begin seeking a mate, with the potential of having a child or children. While Florrenci tend to mate for life, it is not uncommon for a Florrenci to have one or more mates. By the age of 20, most Florrenci will stop mating, having had anywhere from zero to three children on average. Adulthood ends once the Florrenci’s body begins to decline from age, becoming a senior.
Senior (35 to 45 years of age)
The average age that the senior stage of the Florrenci lifecycle begins is at 35. During the later years of life, a Florrenci will start to deteriorate, losing some mobility, and often developing arthritis, along with back, leg, or hip pains. It is not uncommon for older Florrenci to begin seeing their senses diminish as well, having difficulty with smell, sight, and/or sound. The pains of aging signal to the geriatric Florrenci that it is time to retire. In the final years of life, the Florrenci’s fur will become more matted and dull. Due to the loss of mobility, Florrenci elders will often volunteer to take care of their offspring’s babies or children out of the desire for some company, and to impart their wisdom unto the next generation. The Florrenci lifecycle ends at approximately 45 years of age, when the Florrenci can no longer sustain itself and perishes, returning to its primordial essence.

Florrenci age approximately twice as fast as human beings. This means that a Florrenci’s age, multiplied by two, is their equivalent age for a human being. For example, a 30-year old Florrenci would be akin in age to a 60-year old human being.

Evolution

As a florrenci ages, they are capable of undergoing physical changes that extenuate the presence of their essence(s), causing their designs more dynamic. As a florrenci gains favor with their dragon or deity of choice, their primordial essence enters an excited state, beginning to manifest itself on their body. Florrenci may suppress this reaction at will, returning to their original state, though most wear it as a symbol of status, proving that they have earned the favor of a deity. While the florrenci believe that physical evolution comes from having secure the favor of their deities, thus dubbing the change “Draconic Favor,” the reaction is actually caused by a mixture of self-fulfillment and excitement. The deities do not have any control over when/how a florrenci evolves, though most are willing to accept credit if that’s what makes the florrenci happy.

Magic

A florrenci may obtain magical abilities via one of the following five paths

Divine Gift

Florrenci may be granted magic directly by or through their deity. Often, when performing magic as the result of a gift, the florrenci is not channeling the magic themselves, but rather calling upon their deity to use them as a conduit to perform magic in their place. Florrenci receiving magic from a deity usually earn the rights to call upon their deity through a display of loyalty or devotion. Depending on the deity and their motives, these florrenci may be clerics, paladins, or warlocks. While the ties to deities give the florrenci the least freedom with their magical abilities, this form of magic is the least likely to fail, mess up, or have unforeseen side effects. This type of magic is used by paladins.

Harnessing the Rift

The most wild and unpredictable source of magic, and only to be pursued by the fearless. The tear between dimensions has caused surges of magic throughout the florrenci world. Those who are able to find and wrest control of one of these magical surges have access to unbound potential. It is common for adventurers and mercenaries to race to any discovered rift in hopes of obtaining magical powers. However, the rifts are unpredictable, and the pursuit of them is incredibly dangerous. The abilities bestowed from the rift are unpredictable. Any looking to enhance themselves in this way are warned that they risk life and limb for the idea that maybe they could be better. This kind of magic is used by warlocks.

Born with Magic

The least common form of magic in the florrenci world. Innate magical ability is almost exclusively found in florrenci that were created directly by a dragon, though is not impossible for those born to a florrenci parent. Florrenci born with magical abilities may learn to control their abilities through mentoring under one of the dragons. As the florrenci understand the least about this school of magic, it is common that sorcerers born into this school never learn to completely control their magic, usually attending the academy of magic before dropping out due to the studies failing them. Florrenci sorcerers are prone to bouts of wild magic, and will usually only use their magical abilities out of desperation. This type of magic is used by sorcerers.

Magic Plants

While florrenci were aware of magical plant life, the discovery that consuming certain plants could imbue magical abilities was completely accidental. It is unknown if all magical plants carry this property, consumption of the rare Russus Bulb causes a florrenci’s primordial essence to align with the natural world. Florrenci who have consumed a Russus Bulb tend to feel at ease with nature, and are able to influence the natural world around them. Fortunately, druidic magic does not affect the garden florrenci. While these druidic florrenci may influence nature, they do not exert absolute control over it. Florrenci are uncertain how to hone and channel druidic magic granted by the Russus Bulb, and highly advise against its consumption. Side effects of consuming a Russus Bulb include, but are not limited to hearing voices from plants and animals, physical changes to ones form, and plant growth on the body. This type of magic is used by druids.

Magic Study

The original tried and true method to obtain magic. The dragon Yrsa gifted magical books to the starlight florrenci during the Draconic Wars in an attempt to help secure their victory. The Berceuse Academy of Magic formed around the study of these texts and remains the most prestigious academy of magic in the florrenci world. Studying magic is not available to everyone. The academies are difficult to gain admission to, often requiring being born to a magical family. Those who are admitted to the academies find that their options for studying magic are not limitless. Due to nefarious individuals in the past, many aspects of magical study have been banned outright and are kept under strict regulation in order to prevent a repeat of past mistakes. While the academies will welcome students from other schools of magic in order to study them, the academies’ teachings only benefit wizards who gain their magical ability from study. This form of magic is relatively easy to control, but may still result in some mishaps if one is not careful. This type of magic is used by wizards.

Making a Florrenci

Rules for making a florrenci:
1) A Florrenci can have up to two types. Please see the Types of Florrenci document or the quick references at the end of this document to help determine what type, or types, you would like your Florrenci to be.
o NOTE: A Florrenci that is a Confectionary, Celestial, Nimploy, or Geiger Florrenci cannot have a secondary type. They instead replace the Florrenci’s original type(s).o NOTE: A Dreamweaver Florrenci can have any secondary type, including those listed above. However, they are considered to only be dreamweavers and do not inherit the title of the second type.o NOTE: The Grave and Zen Florrenci do not count towards having a type, as they are representative of a life decision. A Florrenci may be a Grave Florrenci or a Zen Florrenci on top of having one or two types (i.e. an Ancestral Aquatic Zen Florrenci).
The type(s) of a Florrenci is determined by their parents, with the Florrenci inheriting one or both types from one parent, one type from each parent, or one type from one parent. (Example: A Glacial/Desert Florrenci and an Ashen Florrenci could have a Glacial/Desert, Glacial/Ashen, Desert/Ashen, Ashen, Glacial, or Desert Florrenci child.)
2) The type or types should help you determine what your Florrenci looks like. Please see the Types of Florrenci document for further clarification.3) The type or types of a Florrenci determines their essence. If the Florrenci receives a draconic blessing, the blessing will manifest itself utilizing the Florrenci’s essence (i.e. a Mountain Florrenci with Arnfinn’s blessing would have a stone barrier, while a Canvas Florrenci with Arnfinn’s blessing would have a paint barrier). The Florrenci’s essence does not have an effect on the strength of the draconic blessing.4) The type or types of Florrenci may help you determine where your Florrenci lives and what lifestyle they may lead. Though a Florrenci is not forced to live in the same area as most of their subspecies nor to conform to their ideals. Please see the Locations in Florrenci Lore document for further information on the Florrenci world.5) Remember to keep in mind the physical attributes and aging for Florrenci. As a brief recap:
o Florrenci reach adulthood at age 10.
o A Florrenci’s age, multiplied by two, is what their equivalent age would be if they were human.
o Florrenci fur patterns first start forming at 2 years of age, and finish forming between 8 to 10 years of age.o Florrenci are small, with an average body length (from head to start of tail) of 16 inches (1’4”). The average height (from floor to underbelly) is 7 inches.
o Florrenci can only be the child of a female Florrenci or a dragon, though their father could not be a Florrenci. (Note, in the case of a dragon as a mother, the father must be a Florrenci.)
o Unless the Florrenci is Ancestral, male Florrenci have longer ears than tails, and female Florrenci have longer tails than ears.
o Note that the ears and tail may still be similar or equivalent length.
o While the length of the tail and ears denote a Florrenci’s physical sex, it does not denote their psychological gender.
6) If you wish for your Florrenci to exist in the main canon, they can fit anywhere in the overarching story as long as they do not:
A. Cause a paradox by preventing the main cast from achieving their stories (including but not limited to wedding or killing any character in the main cast).
B. Destroy timelines/worlds.
C. Take the place of a member of the Draconic Pantheon
D. Have "plot immunity.”

Kobolds arrived on the continent of Elun shortly before the end of the Draconic War.
Upon their arrival, the kobolds found the florrenci unhappy with serving the Draconic Pantheon and quickly took over for the florrenci in taking care of the dragons.
The kobolds earned the respect of both the florrenci and the pantheon by ending the Draconic Wars, granting the florrenci freedom from the pantheon while keeping the pantheon tended to.
While kobolds don’t particularly get any preferential treatment or worship, they are highly regarded in florrenci society and tend to gravitate towards small leadership roles.
